Mission: 1 – Details

We’re in mission.  From now until 11-11-11, we’re imagining, acting, and living out “that they may all be 1” in our congregation, community, and world.  Here’s how to work on the specific opportunities:

  • $1111 to Our Sharing Pantry

Bring checks or cash to the church, or mail your gifts (Note “Our Sharing Pantry Support”) to Union Congregational Church, PO box 275, Somonauk, IL 60552.  You can also donate online

  • 111 letters to congress asking them to reform U.S. foreign assistance in a way that more effectively benefits hungry and poor people worldwide.

The Justice and Peace Action Network (JPANET) offers opportunities to write to congress about a variety of justice and peace related issues.  And the Mission: 1 website within the UCC’s website has a link for you to send and electronic letter right now!

  • $1111 to the Foods Resource Bank

Bring checks or cash to the church, or mail your gifts (Note “Foods Resource Bank support”) to Union Congregational Church, PO box 275, Somonauk, IL 60552. You can also donate online.

  • 11 Walkers in this year’s CROP Walk

You can join the Union Congregational Team — see Ginny or Jim Kroening at church.  You can also join the team and donate too – online!

  • 111 new visitors in church

Invite  your friends and neighbors!  Tell them about our exciting Mission: 1 campaign!  On November 6, the whole United Church of Christ is celebrating “Each 1 Bring 1” Friend Raising Sunday.  Bring a friend on November 6 and any other Sunday, too!

  • 11 pennies saved per day

Sure, you can make it nickels, dimes, or quarters.  Save 11 per day.  It will add up!  Then donate what you’ve saved to one of the opportunities on this list!

  • 11 acts of kindness per week

Go out of your way to offer kindness and love to a friend in need, a stranger, or even someone you aren’t particularly fond of.  Kindness counts!

What other Mission: 1 opportunities do you see?

Remember, through all of it, let’s focus on Christ’s words – “that they may all be 1.”
